Greetings from Uruguay! 🙂
Today we are showcasing another awesome shipping container home shared exclusively with The Casa Club! The homeowners of the beach side Mar Abierto Container Apartments contacted us through Instagram, and we were more than happy to show off their property to our readers. That blue they chose is so beautiful!
This is our first venture of this style, to which we put a lot of love. We wanted to prove to ourselves that this type of construction was possible. We had already seen constructions of this type but we always stayed with the traditional construction that was the only one in which we had experience.
The decision of the containers as the basis of the venture was due to the simplicity, speed, low costs, configurability, and sustainability mainly presented by the constructions of this style without losing the comforts of a home. For the labor force, masons are replaced by blacksmiths, which is a great advantage since it becomes a dry construction with all the advantages it presents. For the construction, 4 containers of 12mts (one for each apartment) with 22mm thick melamine plate coverings separated by a 10cm air chamber and a layer of fiberglass, were designed to withstand the high summer temperatures.
Of its cross ventilation to ensure its comfort has an air conditioning unit. Generous openings were used to appreciate the sea from each of its environments in addition to providing light and ventilation. Around it and integrating the exterior, the floors were covered with eucalyptus wood deck, which visually and physically expands the spaces, surrounded by a pergola of woods aged by time, projecting shadows of comfortable warmth while at the same time. You can visualize the sea from any corner of it. This combination of wood added to the cyan blue color of the containers makes a very striking place in the area and are chosen year after year for more and more tourists to stay since they have all the comforts of a 2 room apartment, equipped as a house and prevailing in its internal decoration recovered or recycled materials.
The 4 containers were mounted on a lot in one of the highest areas of Punta del Diablo, Uruguay. In a lot of 20 x 30 meters, this property covers a little more than 120mts2 covered and 100mts2 of decks. Each 2-room apartment has 30mts2 covered and 20mts2 of individual decks balconies all with wonderful views to the sea, at the bottom of the land was available a barbecue built with recovered cobblestones and tables made of cable reels. Knowing in advance that we were dealing with metal in the majority of the project were used in addition to the protections that already came, high quality polyurethane paints to protect them from the severe sea climate, so far they have already spent 5 years and have far exceeded our expectations regarding conservation.
The apartments also include:
- Air conditioning hot / cold
- TV with directv
- Potable drinking water
- Refrigerator, microwave, stove, toaster and electric kettle, hair dryer
- all the necessary kitchen elements for 4 people
- Parking lot
- Excellent view to the sea in all units
So what do you think? Would you stay here for $75/night during off season or $120/night during regular booking season? ☺
